The weavers of fate. In some norse poems, there are many norns, or nornir. In the völuspá, there is urd (similar to the past tense “became”) verdandi (present tense “becoming”) and skuld (“will-happen”.) they live near a well at the base of yggdrasil, the world tree. The symbol above their heads is the web of wyrd - referring to the anglo-saxon word “wyrd” or fate, a cognate of the old norse “urd”.
