Hermes has had many attributes since first appearing in Bronze Age ledgers of sacrifice. As a god of herdsmen, thieves, messengers, language, commerce, travel, roads, dreams, magic, trickery, diplomacy, athletics, the dead, fertility, and boundaries, he holds purview over and between many aspects of life that have remained foundational to everyday experience since Antiquity.
 
In this class we will focus on Hermes Chthonios, the Terrestrial or Underworld Hermes, and learn how to construct an idol for  magico-devotional practice.  We will cover some basic historical background, and then focus on practical concerns for engaging with Hermes as a guide of souls and god of dream revelations, magic, and luck.
 
We will take an experience-oriented approach to growing a working relationship with Hermes Chthonios for dream incubation, necromancy, grieving, and remediating the ill effects of Mercury retrograde. You will leave this class with the tools to build your own working relationship with the master psychagogue and herald of the gods, to bring Hermes into your life and deepen your own relationship with a god of many guises.
 
In this course you will learn to:
•Construct your own idol for Hermes Chthonios
•Keep Hermes’ holy days and feasts, give him proper sacrifices, and understand how his sacrifices can be given alongside sacrifice to other chthonian gods
•Gain favor and hedge your bets to remediate the worst of Mercury’s cyclical retrograde motions
•Magically engage with Hermes Chthonios for dream incubation and revelation
•Work with Hermes as messenger between realms for necromantic purposes, lamentation, and giving prayers for the dead
 
About the Presenter:
Simon Haskell (he/him) is  a magical practitioner with over 20 years of experience in bootstrapped occultism.  He holds an MA in religious studies and is a certified instructor of Raja yoga. He currently lives in an intentional community in upstate New York.
