Diviners On Divining is a monthly online class series hosted  by The Cauldron Black and presented and chaired by Dr Alexander Cummins  exploring the mysteries, minutiae, and mastery of divination with a  range of visiting guest diviners.
 
The Diviners On Divining series consists of twelve monthly  events across 2023 featuring a host of very special guest speakers  discussing various fundamental aspects of divination: from focused  exploration of particular systems and styles of oracular reading to  widely-applicable techniques, tips, and tricks of interpretation,  diagnosis, remediation, and enchantment for one’s personal and  professional divinatory practices.
 
We are proud to host a fantastic range of guest speakers with an  illuminating range of expertises for this series which welcomes conjure  doctors, folk healers, mediums, astrolators, cartomancers, rune readers,  witches, geomancers, candle-workers, and many other sorts of diviners  and workers. We are excited to invite you to this series of talks  celebrating the unfolding mysteries and practical wisdoms alike of  divination in its many many forms, functions, and fashions.
 
How we think about the heavens above – the grand cosmic starry vault of space and time –  informs a great deal about how we act upon the earth. From the tracing of stellar influences and occult optics of numerous astrological sciences to the star-lores and folk astrologies of innumerable “irregular” practitioners across time, the concepts, tropes, heroes, and stories we tell out of the stars and their spirits are at the heart of all con-siderations…
 
We are thus delighted to welcome astrologer, educator, and publisher Dr Jenn Zahrt to this August edition of the Diviners on Divining series, and to welcome her to offer some thoughts, perspectives, and insight into divination by astrologies of various stripes.
 
We'll discuss the ontological and epistemological contours of astrological divination, namely, what adheres to a divinatory act via astrological means that is unique to it, in contrast to other mantic forms.
 
At the heart of the inquiry will be the endeavour to explore further the questions of legibility and literacy at the heart of "doing a reading" and how astrology may always already be truly divinatory, even in its most impersonal or computational diagnostic modes.
 
In short, we promise a philosophical deep dive into the bleeding heart of celestial intelligences, and would be delighted for you to join us on this adventure through the heavens and back down to earth.
 
About the Presenter:
Dr. Jenn Zahrt is an author, publisher, and teacher of cultural astronomy and astrology. From 2017-2022, she was an Honorary Research Fellow at the Sophia Centre for the Study of Cosmology in Culture at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. She is an Emerita Trustee of Kepler College and now serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR). Through CAELi, Dr. Zahrt endeavors to provide a supportive learning space for every member and introduce people of all ages to the Celestial Arts, broadly defined.
