This illustration by Alberto Martini was created for a collection of works by Edgar Allan Poe. Alberto Martini was born November 24th 1876 in Oderzo, Veneto Italy and died November 8th 1954 in Milan, Italy. His first art teacher was his father, Giorgio, who was a professor of drawing at the Instituto Technico in Treviso. Throughout his career, Alberto illustrated for such notable magazines as Dekorative Kunst and Jugend. Although known for his stark, macabre, and grotesque work with pen and ink, he also loved to create colorful scenes with pastels.
