About the Event

Enter O Reino da Lira, the Kingdom of the Lyre, and come dance with the Devil’s Wife! Join The Cauldron Black as we host a service for Maria Padilha das Sete Encruzilhadas – the powerful spirit of the Good People of Quimbanda who stands triumphantly amongst the legions who are Pomba Gira. For she is the Lady of the Seven Crossroads who wields the hellfire of personal empowerment, strength, organization and power; the Queen of Hell, Wife of Lucifer, & Star of the Cabaret! This service to our dear Dona Sete will – at her express bequest – will include a litany of songs not only in honor of this Pomba Gira but pontos cantadas(‘sung-points’) to welcome and celebrate the Queens of the Seven  Kingdoms – Rainha Das Almas, Rainha Da Praia, Rainha das Mattas, Rainha das Sete Encruzilhadas, Rainha das Sete Cruzieros, and Rainha da Calunga, as well  as Maria Padilha in her role as Maria da Candomble, Queen of the Cabaret.  There will be a "devil’s hymnal” of a song guidebook provided, as all songs  will be sung in Brazilian Portuguese, the primary language of Quimbanda.  Offerings will be presented to Dona Sete as well as various other Exus and Pomba Giras  in the retinue of working spirits that fight on the side of The Cauldron  Black. This service will be led by Tata Apokan and assisted by Yaya Nzajii as well as other members of the Cabula Mavile Kitulu kia Njila, a Quimbanda house based in upstate NY. This event IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. Though this event will be in a public space, we would encourage you to leave your little ones at home. This public event will last approx. 45-60 minutes and is free of charge, though donations to charitable organizations we work with  are strongly encouraged. (visit our info page about The Bruxa de Evora for more information on the charities we are supporting this month)
