Diviners On Divining is a monthly online class series hosted  by The Cauldron Black and presented and chaired by Dr Alexander Cummins  exploring the mysteries, minutiae, and mastery of divination with a  range of visiting guest diviners.

The Diviners On Divining series consists of twelve monthly  events across 2023 featuring a host of very special guest speakers  discussing various fundamental aspects of divination: from focused  exploration of particular systems and styles of oracular reading to  widely-applicable techniques, tips, and tricks of interpretation,  diagnosis, remediation, and enchantment for one’s personal and  professional divinatory practices.

We are proud to host a fantastic range of guest speakers with an  illuminating range of expertises for this series which welcomes conjure  doctors, folk healers, mediums, astrolators, cartomancers, rune readers,  witches, geomancers, candle-workers, and many other sorts of diviners  and workers. We are excited to invite you to this series of talks  celebrating the unfolding mysteries and practical wisdoms alike of  divination in its many many forms, functions, and fashions.

The stars have provided humanity various means of divining and thus navigating underlying influences since the first nights unveiled their glittering dance to those with the eyes to apprehend their choreographies. From the careful geometries of astrophysics and the wise elections of countless astrological magicians, to intimately personal poetries and engagements with timeless stories and folklores which instantiate the living mysteries of the firmaments, heavens, and starry vault of the underworld: there are spirits and sorceries haunting the sky.

In this April edition of Diviners on Divining series, we are delighted to welcome astrolator Sasha Ravitch to share her perspectives and perspicacity on the subject of stellar witchcraft and starry spirit-work. Ms Ravitch will be reflecting on her construction and applications of forms of “stellar horary” divination developed in order to ascertain the presence of particular stellar spirits during moments of ceremony, initiation, or even the mundane.

We will consider how navigating stars by their lore and legions can be assisted through horary dreamwork, and more broadly consider how astrolatry and stellar witchcraft can form a foundation for starry-scrying and spirit-work, especially investigating relationships in divination between voices in the firmament speaking through terrestrial mouths, and sublunary spirits.

Such conversation will develop helpful guidelines for how divination with stellar spirits feels similar to – as well as different from – other types of magic involving chthonic as well as sublunar/terrestrial spirits, and how sometimes our divides of taxonomy can be misleading…

This discussion will finally focus on the ethics of such starry spirit-work – informed by Ms Ravitch’s therapeutic background and training as well as wider discussion amongst our communities of professional diviners – to consider how old stars and even veteran stargazers can indeed learn new tricks, and assess some of the strengths as well as cautions in developing one’s own unique techniques for divining and doctoring.
