The legend of the Virgin of Guadalupe is that she first appeared to an Indigenous shepherd near Mexico City in 1531 and asked him to build a temple in her honor. Since then she’s become a beloved symbol in Mexico and beyond, representing faith, compassion and comfort to the oppressed. ⠀
