Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) was the abbess of significant Benedictine abbey and an important teacher, artist, healer, and early scientist. She wrote books on theology, medicine and physiology, along with poetry and music. She began having visions at the age of 42 which she recorded in illuminated images, 24 of which are presented in this book along with her commentaries on them. This book presents the towering genius of a medieval woman who is being rediscovered as one of the greatest, if sometimes forgotten, artists and intellectuals the world has ever known.
