Horus is the son of Isis and Osiris and is the protector of Pharaohs and of Egypt. He is associated with the sun and its positions in the sky, hence his depiction as a hawk. Horus avenged his father's death at the hands of his uncle Seth, during which he lost an eye. The Eye of Horus symbol was considered a powerful protection amulet in ancient Egypt.
